Netatmo’s June Tracks Sun Exposure

January 15, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

June-Ambiance-Or_WebPeople who work around radiation have long worn exposure monitors. And more and more people are wearing movement trackers. So why not wristware that monitors excess exposure to the sun?

Why not indeed? Neatmo (which heretofore has made connected weather stations and thermostats) has introduced June, a jewel-like bauble that hangs on a slender leather strap, and which tracks how much sun its wearer has gotten — and what do do about it.

You tell the June iOS app your skin type, and the June monitors sun intensity and time, and suggests when it’s time to put on a hat (usually) or sunglasses or sunscreen (always?), and when to get out of the sun entirely.

For some reason, this $99 piece of technology is aimed explicitly at women. Because men, apparently, don’t go out in the sun. It ships in the second quarter of this year.
