Project Florida: Data-Driven Wearable Startup With Serious Cred

May 14, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

floridaGigaOM is on the trail of a well-pedigreed launch company calling itself (for the time being) Project Florida. Clicking that link is distinctly non-informative, but reporter Janko Roettgers has been doing some digging and found this from a job posting:

You will play a major role in defining our company’s first offering, a wearable piece of tech. This wearable sensor device must deliver both an amazing end-user experience and be a data storage and transport platform for medically relevant research. Naturally we aim for it to be as small as possible and require charging as seldom as possible.

Roettgers has found the fingerprints of Skype co-founder Janus Friis all over this New York-based startup, from the law firm that’s involved, to the involvement of Carter Adamson, the founder of the Friis-backed Rdio, and Alan Beaufort, who was at Joost, also backed by Friis. And Florida has apparently hired on the well-regarded data scientist Drew Conway, and Jeff Cha, who until recently ran Nike’s FuelBand marketing.

What are they up to? It’s not clear yet. But it certainly bears watching…
