“The problem with fitness trackers,” says nearly everyone, “is that they’re ugly.” Withings responds with the Activité, a remarkably good-looking Swiss watch that hides a fitness tracker.
It looks like, well, a nice watch. Round analog face, in black or white, with a leather strap and a stainless steel case. Two hands for the time, and a third hand on a second dial marked from zero to 100 that moves as you get closer to your fitness goal. The watch connects over Bluetooth to an iOS smartphone app, where you can set a vibrating alarm and your fitness goal.
There’s no stem on the watch, because it takes the time from your phone so there’s no reason to wind or set the time. Tap the crystal, and the hands show you the alarm time you’ve set. The battery is a standard watch battery that’s expected to last a year. It’s water resistant to 5 atmospheres, although you may not want to get the nice leather band wet.
Cost: about $500. Ships in August.
