One of our favorite bits of wearables is the Airwave goggle from Oakley — basically an already high-end ski goggle with a heads-up display from Recon inserted in the right lens.
Oakley tells us today that there’s an upgrade for this year: the ability to control a Garmin VIRB Elite action camera through the Airwave’s glove interface. You also can apparently monitor the camera in your HUD, which may be one too many distractions, frankly. I we were bombing down a chute like the one in this video, we’d be way too focused on survival than on how we looked. If this doesn’t raise your heartrate, the new Fitbits won’t help…
The new version of the Airwave also features better graphics and battery life. The VIRB camera, in case you’re not familiar with it, can run for three hours on one battery, and includes GPS, an altimeter, and an accelerometer. The Airwave sells for $649; the VIRB Elite is $400.
