Fewer than 10M Smart Glasses/Year to Ship by 2017, Juniper Says

November 4, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

Juniper Research is one of the more active research shops in the wearables market, and it’s released a report that says that smart glasses aren’t taking off the way their adherents thought they would.

Google Glass, of course, was the bellwether of the wearable revolution, but never reached the critical mass that its early adopters seemed to think it would. Juniper’s report suggests (correctly) that growth in this segment will happen in enterprise and healthcare applications, with companies developing custom software.

Sales will tick along, Juniper says, thanks to product refreshes from Samsung, Recon, and Osterhout. But because enterprises buy devices that will be shared among users and not bought for each individual, shipments will not surpass 10 million units per year until 2018.
