Google Glass Just Resting, Schmidt Tells WSJ

March 23, 2015 By Dan Rosenbaum

frames_curve glassThe much-maligned much-ballyhooed Google Glass really isn’t dead, Google chairman Eric Schmidt told the Wall Street Journal today. It’s being readied for the consumer market.

The company pulled Glass from the market in January, shut down its “Explorers Program,” and moved responsibility for the $1500 project to Tony Fadell’s product group, which includes things like the Nest thermostat. To thank the tens of thousands of Explorers, Google sent them a coffee table book about Glass.

Glass “is a big and very fundamental platform for Google,” Schmidt told the Journal. “Google is about taking risks and there’s nothing about adjusting Glass that suggests we’re ending it.”

Except, presumably, from suddenly ending the pilot project and not talking publicly about what follows to the people who invested time, money, and energy in it.
