Omate Announces TrueSmart Standalone Smartwatch Update

September 21, 2015 By Dan Rosenbaum

Omate TrueSmart+Omate was one of the first smartwatch companies, and carved its own path with standalone devices that used SIM chips and didn’t need to be tethered to a smart phone. The company today announced its latest update: the TrueSmart+, based on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and a custom UI.

Apps for the watch will be downloadable from Omate’s “OStore.” A 1.5-inch touch screen is the main interface device; tech specs include a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek Cortex-AT chip from MediaTek and a Bosch sensor hub. The watch takes a 3G microSIM, and WiFi, 2G, 3G and GPS antennas are incorporated into the rubberized watch band. Charging is through a magnetic cradle; battery life is promised for “up to three days of standby time.”

The TrueSmart+ is available for pre-order through October 31 for $169; shipment is promised “in the course of November,” the company said.

The TrueSmart+ is a return to wristware for Omate; the company recently announced a notification ring built in cooperation with the fashion house Ungaro.
