Not only did Team Great Britain have reason to dance at the closing ceremonies for the 2016 Olympics, they had the perfect shoes to do it in. The record-breaking team that garnered even more medals that at the London games four years ago were wearing custom-made trainers—Brit-speak for athletic shoes—that lit the way.
LED lights along the soles of the shoes lit up red, white, and blue as the athletes marched out of the Olympic stadium for home. Romper, a parenting site, wrote, “Great Britain took gold in the coolest kicks of the Games.”
A team spokesperson said that the shoes were meant to reflect the magic of the London games as well as a nod to the future and the 2020 games in Tokyo by incorporating wearable tech into the uniforms.
The shoes were designed by Simon Jersey, and the company has gotten a lot of requests to make the shoes available to the rest of us. Which they might, if the response merits it. So, more response, please. Until then, you can check eBay, where at least one nameless member of Team GB is selling a pair.
