Qualcomm Life and UnitedHealthcare Extend Their Wellness Partnership: CES

January 3, 2017 By Dan Rosenbaum

fitbit-charge-2Last year, Qualcomm and UnitedHealthcare started a pilot program in 12 states to pay people to stay active. This year, the companies say, they are extending it to 40 states and broadening the number of fitness trackers the program works with.

Under the UnitedHealthcare Motion program, employees can earn up to $4 per day if they meet distance, intensity, and frequency goals for walking — up to $1500 per year. UnitedHealthcare provides the trackers and the incentive; Qualcomm Health provides the secure data transmission to the insurance company over its 2net platform.

The Motion program is available to self-funded employers with five or more eligible employees and companies with fully insured health plans with 101 or more eligible employees.

Trackers in the program are customized to display progress toward the distance, intensity, and frequency goals.  UHC and Qualcomm are also allowing customers to use a wider range of devices, including the Fitbit Charge 2. Fitbit, of course, is itself active in the corporate wellness market.
