MEMI and Cubit Kickstarters

October 30, 2013 By Dan Rosenbaum

Maybe you don’t need a screen after all…

MEMI is a Kickstarter-financed women’s braceletmemi that pairs with your iPhone and vibrates whenever you get an important phone call, text, or calendar alert. That’s all. The idea is that women frequently carry their phones in their purses, and can’t hear them when they get a call. A watch with a display is overkill and ugly, but there’s a need for a subtle alert. Not bad. Delivery is anticipated in August 2014.

cubitCubit is a two-way notification dongle; it can be triggered by your phone to beep and/or light up, or you can use it to buzz your phone. It’s got a small OLED screen so you can customize the display, and supports geo-fencing so you’ll get an alert if either you or it goes astray. The Cubit is open source, but it requires an iOS7 phone for full functionality. iOS5 and Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) will allow some functions to work. Delivery is anticipated for July 2014.
