Anyone who’s sat next to somebody who plays their earphones too loud will probably be able to appreciate the SubPacM1, a wearable subwoofer. A press release from the company describes it as a “low-profile” backpack that “provides the physical vibrations of club-level bass in a wearable form that is quiet to the outside world (and sleeping neighbors.”
The thing weighs about two pounds and is powered by a LiIon battery. A previous model, the S1, was funded by Kickstarter, and there’s another run of that one coming, too. Pre-orders at $299, list price of $350. Shipping in December.
I remember something similar in the gaming community some 15 or 20 years ago. The idea was that you could feel the body blows in combat games. As I recall, it didn’t catch on. There was plenty of bass in the club scene back then, but I guess we didn’t have the portable music options that we have now to make it a (more?) practical (?) device.
