Brendan O’Neil from One Mighty Roar has become a frequent and interesting correspondent hereabouts. He’s taken a look at Apple’s purchase of PrimeSense, the company that built the technology behind Microsoft’s Kinect camera and 3D System’s Sense, and has a theory:
tl;dr — Apple will build a contextual ad platform that will be used in physical spaces and introduce analytics beyond anything we have ever seen.
O’Neil sees Apple assembling pieces including the iBeacon tracking technology built into iOS7, the M7 processor in the iPhone 5S, and Bluetooth 4. Together, companies can know where you are and what you’re doing in great detail.
You don’t even need the Apple stuff, it turns out — or even a phone. Check out the post for a sort of creepy stalker-ish radar-like application using just a Fitbit Flex and Bluetooth.
