This is some interesting thinking about how wearables can be used with retail loyalty programs. It’s not like your customers are going to put on WalMart sweats to go shopping at WallyWorld (although don’t discount that; I bet some Apple fanboys put on just the right t-shirt when they go to the Apple Store).
But I do like the concept. There are already retail apps that follow you around a store (Apple and Target). The Square Wallet iPhone app lets you pay at a register by essentially announcing your presence. Waze tells you where the nearest Home Depot and Taco Bell are, whether you want to know or not. It’s not such a big leap for a store to tune into something you’re wearing and help you find Housewares or steer you to weekly specials by vibrating appropriately. And, for that matter, to reward you — either financially or by gamification — for visiting certain displays or just showing up.
