A Wearables Taxonomy, and Where It Falls Short

November 4, 2013 By Dan Rosenbaum

Stained Glass Labs, an incubator for wearable tech startups, has put together an interesting taxonomy of the wearables and the Internet of Things industry as it currently exists. This is the accompanying infographic.

We’ve written about a lot of these companies, and it’s a pretty well-thought out list as far as it goes. But where this taxonomy falls short is that it doesn’t include the infrastructure players: Freescale, ARM, Intel, Fullpower, MC10 and so on.

As a list of products, this is great. Some of them may even act as platforms. But the foundational players are missing from this list, and they need to be there to complete the wearbles picture.
