Amazon’s edging into building a lot of consumer tech, but not (as far as we know) wearables. On the other hand, the retailing giant today launched a specialty shop devoted to wearable technology.
The page lets Amazon promote new and featured products, presumably backed by co-op dollars from manufacturers. There’s also buying guides (text and video), and sub-stores for fitness/wellness, healthcare devices, wearable cameras, smartwatches, and trackers.
It looks sharp, and it’ll be interesting to see how this evolves. We’ve heard that this is a direction that Amazon is moving, and that there will likely be similar stores in other departments and categories. Clearly Amazon is already a master at surfacing products through search; this looks like an effort to improve sales through navigation.
