ABI Puts Enterprise Wearables Market at $18 Billion in 5 Years

May 20, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

ABI Research is guesstimating that the market for enterprise wearables — that’s business-related, not consumer — will total about $18 Billion in 2019. Analyst Jason McNichol says the enterprise market will consist essentially of visor products (like Vuzix, Google Glass, and Epson Moverio) and healthcare-related devices. Smartwatches count, too, but as “BYOD” (bring-your-own-device) and not mainstream enterprise gear.

That seems like a lot of money for a market that’s barely ticking. But ABI is counting much more than the devices. They’re including all the infrastructure — corporate networking, security, software development, bandwidth, management, system integration. So maybe $18 billion is a pretty good estimate. One wonders what share of that is simply the hardware. To find out, you’ll presumably have to buy the report, which will run you $2000.
