Gilt Group to Sell Michael Bastian-Designed Smartwatch from HP

August 4, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

bastian watchWe’re not nearly hip or rich enough to have heard of menswear designer Michael Bastian, but that’s entirely on us. The Gilt Group, the online luxury retailer, says they will be selling a Bastian-designed smartwatch built by HP come the Fall.

Fashionista is reporting that the watch, which will be primarily a notification device, will work with both iOS and Android apps. The shipping date implies that the watch will be based on the Android Wear operating system.

HP did the tech design and Bastian did the industrial design, and Gilt will sell it. It’s worth noting that we can find no evidence of Bastian’s having designed anything like a watch or jewelry before.

Pricing has not been disclosed. But given that Bastian’s clothes sell through places like Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman (and not on his website), we don’t expect it to be cheap.
