Apple has sent out invitations to a media event on Monday, March 9, in San Francisco. This is the first business day after Mobile World Congress and the first business day after Daylight Savings Time goes into effect for 2015. The latter is significant because the invitation is titled “Spring Forward,” which the blogosphere has decided means there will be some Apple Watch announcements.
It’s not an unreasonable conclusion. Apple has said the Watch will ship in April, so March may signal the opening of pre-orders and the announcement of ecosystem partners. (It may also signal the disclosure of pesky details like pricing.) Also, Apple bought a dozen pages in the March Vogue magazine — second in fashion-world impact only to the September issue — to advertise the Watch. So the hype machine around the Watch is grinding into gear again.
Then again, the event could be about something else entirely. There are rumors of a new Macbook Pro and Air, and of a refreshed iMac. But watch for the Watch. And be sure to move all your non-net-connected clocks ahead one hour the day before; you wouldn’t want to miss anything.
