LG Urbane Smartwatch: Huge, But Easy to Fix

May 11, 2015 By Dan Rosenbaum

LG-G-Watch-Urbane-LTEThere were a couple of interesting articles over the weekend about the LG Watch Urbane, the first watch to run the newest version of Android Wear. The Verge liked the software, but as for the watch itself:

The consensus is that this is a cheap-looking watch trying to pretend that it’s an expensive watch. It’s not fake-Rolex levels of low-brow ostentation, but it’s in the ballpark.

Ouch. This will not help sell watches, even at $349. On the other hand, the article has a reasonable appreciation of the merits of Android Wear 5.1, and the evolution of the software platform into something usable.

On the other hand, the fine folks at iFixit tore down the Urbane and liked it a lot, finding it surprisingly unfussy to disassemble and maintain.
