Olio, makers of one of the more interesting high-end smartwatches, says it has just closed a $10 million Series A funding round led by New Enterprise Associates. In addition, the company has put on sale its latest round of limited-edition watches, led by versions plated in yellow or rose gold.
As we’ve written previously, Olio has developed its own hardware and software based on the idea of not just sending notifications to your wrist, but of learning which notifications are important. It works with both Android and iOS phones. The devices themselves are pretty impressive: substantial and watch-like.
The first round of 500 watches each of a steel and black versions sold out. One thousand more of each of those are now available, and 100 units each of yellow and rose gold-plated versions are also for sale. Different styles of link and leather bands are available depending on the model. Pricing ranges from $595 to $1395, with a $250 “friends and family” discount for early movers.
The money, the company says, will be used for product development and manufacturing.
