We wrote a few months ago about a call for applications to a Department of Homeland Security EMERGE program to develop wearables for first responders. TechNexus, a Chicago “venture collaborative” has picked 13 companies to work with it and DHS:
- BearTek: wearable tech built into task-specific gloves to wirelessly control devices.
- Energy Bionics: Develops, manufactures and markets portable and wearable energy products that harvest ambient energy.
- Human Systems Integration: development and delivery of advanced situational awareness solutions for military and industry.
- International Thermodyne: energy harvesting; product is PowerFelt™
- Juxtopia: biomed and IT company that “delivers measurable, effective products & services for improving human performance.”
- Kofman Technologies: “aims to reduce lethality in peacekeeping and law enforcement through technological innovation.”
- Neumitra: Develops embedded technologies to address the costs of stress and sleep deprivation.
- Nucurrent: wireless re-charging.
- Pivothead Wearable Imaging: ‘Smart’ eyewear cameras.
- Rithmio: gesture recognition platform.
- Select Engineering Services: detects a penetration event — shot, stabbed or hit by shrapnel — and automatically sends your: ID / Location / Injuries.
- Telesense: environmental monitoring and control solutions.
- TRX: location and mapping indoors, where GPS does not work, without relying on networked beacons or infrastructure.
