New Bands, Watch Finishes, OS for Apple Watch

September 9, 2015 By Dan Rosenbaum

apple-watch-collection-1364x768The Apple Watch went first at today’s big Apple blowout, which was fitting because its news was pretty small potatoes. We already knew about WatchOS 2.0, although the September 16 date hadn’t been publicly announced. There’s a new rose gold finish for the aluminum Sport watch, and some new wristbands, both plastic and leather.

The part of all that with the largest implication, of course, is the new OS. As previously reported, WatchOS 2 will give developers access to more of the watch’s sensors than they had before, and will allow apps to run natively on the watch instead of relying on a tethered iPhone for its processing power. Facebook showed a native Messenger app, and a medical app called AirStrip was demoed, allowing two-way data exchange between a patient and doctor, using data collected on the watch.
