Smartphones have become pretty much indispensable, but no matter which brand you have, you have to return them to a mothership periodically to charge up. Now a Kickstarter product, the UK-based ION Belt, solves the problem of all those interruptions in your high-speed life.
ION Belt is a leather belt, with a built-in 3,000mAh battery—enough to charge an iPhone 6 1.5 times—and a USB recharger in the buckle. The kicker here is the battery, given the flammability of lithium-ion batteries. The company is addressing this rather important safety issue by encapsulating the battery in steel.
“We wanted to go that extra mile and have therefore developed the Encapsulpak™ steel-clad technology to protect the batteries from accidental damage and general wear and tear,” a company spokesman said.
Women reading this will not be surprised that the hand-tooled belt is male, rather than unisex, and all the pictures of the product use male models.
