Seems as if everything these days tracks biometrics, either as a basic function or an added feature. Most of those trackers are not gender-specific, but when you’re talking sports bras, you’re talking a decline in gender diversity. But in a good way. We think.
Canadian company OmSignal has developed the Om bra, a sports bra that tracks biometrics, calories burned, and your workout schedule It also tells you when you can push harder and whether you’re in danger of overtraining and need to pull back a little. You can keep track of everything in real time via the mobile app and you iOS device, or leave your phone at home and get a readout when you get back.
The bra, which will be available in several colors or prints, is attractively designed, even given the little plastic smart box insert on the band, which can take a 24-hour continuous workout before needing to be charged. Some testers have commented favorably on the comfort level, too.
The Om bra will be available this spring at the more-than-you-usually-pay-for-sports-bras price of $149. And that’s cut-rate compared to OmSignal’s compression shirt for male athletes, which starts at $275. If you take your workouts seriously, the product might well be worth the price. Even without all the technical additions, this a well-designed piece of clothing.
