Rings To Fight Netflix Infidelity

June 14, 2016 By Pugi Kohl

Series commitment ringsCornetto, the UK ice cream brand, has the answer to a particularly 21st century transgression: streaming infidelity. They’ve come up with rings that couples can use to commit to watching—binge or otherwise—TV shows together.

Couples register their commitment rings and lock access to the shows they have agreed to watch together; two hearts with but a single screen, so to speak. In order to watch those shows on that screen, both rings must be present to unlock viewing, presumably on the fingers of the two people who set this whole thing up.

We are talking about loyalty, honesty, trust, and honor—and a third-party technological means of assuring they exist in our relationships. We predict these will about as successful as the commitment rings some southern high schools have suggested as an answer to teenage pregnancy, especially since cheating is as easy as finding another TV, by sneaking over to your BFF’s house and watching there.

But consider the manifold moral implications if you do. You’ll have to lie to the other ring bearer: “Oh, wow! Never saw that coming. Huh!” Maybe it’s better in the scheme of things to take up crocheting or power lifting to stave off cravings for that extra, solitary episode. Or, if you have to cheat, take acting lessons.

One more thing: what does ice cream have to do with this? We have no earthly idea.
