Mystery Barges Are Google Glass Showrooms

November 4, 2013 By Dan Rosenbaum

All things being equal, we’re pretty much fans of Google around here, although we do wish they’d stop acting like villains out of James Bond movies.

The latest: Google has apparently been building four-story structures on mysterious barges off the coasts of San Francisco and in New London, CT for reasons that have been heretofore obscure. In the last couple of days, though, it’s become apparent that these barges — made of 40-foot shipping containers — are destined to be VIP showrooms for Google Glass and related applications. The idea seems to be that the barges can be easily disassembled and shipped to locations as needed. It’s not clear whether the structures, although they are built on barges, will be set up afloat or be able to be reassembled on land. Or either.

First stop, reportedly: New York City. We’ll keep you posted.
