Epson Shows Moverio Visor

December 20, 2013 By Dan Rosenbaum

moverioEpson is a familiar brand to tech lifers. They’re very big in dot matrix printers, labelers, cash registers and stuff like that, but it’s been a while since Twittering classes have had them in their crosshairs. But Epson’s been back in the labs playing with wearable tech and are about to show their latest take.

TechRadar reports that the Moverio visor isn’t meant for everyday street use, the way Google Glass is. Befitting Epson’s focus on business, Moverio is intended for industrial or special-case use. And rather than positioning the display in a corner of the field of vision, the way Glass or Recon’s display does, Moverio is intended to put data across the entire field of view.

Those differences mean that the real trick to Moverio will be the software, and that software will most likely all be custom. Think of warehouse workers needing maps to find and pick parts, or surveyors taking measurements in the field.

Epson’s got a news conference scheduled for CES in a couple of weeks and they say they’ll be talking wearables. We’ll keep you posted.
