Microsoft Smartwatch Coming Soon, Says Forbes

May 30, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

Gear FitForbes is reporting that Microsoft is prepping a smartwatch for launch as soon as this summer.

The device will draw on optical engineering expertise from Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect division to continuously measure heart rate through the day and night, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the company’s plans, while the battery will last for two days, roughly on par with Samsung’s Gear Fit.

The watch, which would operate with iOS and Android devices besides Windows Phones, would look like the Samsung Gear Fit but put the display on the inside of the wrist, for privacy purposes, Forbes said. No word about its operating system, which would presumably not be any flavor of Android.

Microsoft would not comment. At this writing, no one has been able to match the story.
