No Rush Here, But Nike Finally Releases Android FuelBand App

June 18, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

Nike_FuelBand_SENike’s been on the market with the FuelBand for about two years — long enough to make a big splash with it and then more or less climb out of the pool. For all that time, the FuelBand has worked only with iOS devices. You use Android? You’re not using Nike.

Now that Nike has apparently stopped developing the hardware (while sticking with software and ramping up evangelization of the NikeFuel concept), what better time to finally ship an Android app? Just in time for Apple’s HealthKit platform for iOS8, due to ship this fall, and its widely expected fitness band.

Once upon a time, this would have been an important step. Now? Who knows? It’ll be interesting to see how many downloads the thing gets — and if there’s a spike in FuelBand sales.
