Misfit Climbs Into Bed with Beddit

July 10, 2014 By Dan Rosenbaum

misfit_beddit-e638a943e6f4d6c7858895bd4de925f8Misfit, maker of the Shine activity tracker, has struck a deal with Beddit, maker of the eponymous sleep tracker, and is now selling the devices.

The Beddit is a thin strip-like device that fits — undetectably, they say —  under your mattress and keeps track of your movement in bed. The device claims to track sleep duration and quality, snoring, time to fall asleep, and respiration rate and will display them in an iOS app. In addition, the Beddit can make sounds that will soothe you to sleep and smart alarms that will rouse you during light parts of your sleep cycle.

What’s interesting about the Beddit is that it doesn’t require its users to wear anything: the sensor is on your mattress, not your arm. What’s unclear is how this works with more than one person in the bed.

The relationship between the two companies is oddly unstated, but it’s certain that Misfit is now selling Misfit-labelled Beddits; whether it’s also manufacturing them, developing them, selling them only in the U.S., investing in the Finnish parent company, or acquiring it outright is unclear. The sharp-eyed will note that the Beddit now resides alongside the Shine in hte top nav of Misfit’s website, and that Beddit’s pages are touted as “a Misfit Labs Feature.”

At Beddit, the price is $149. At Misfit, the price is $149.99.

Here’s a video of Beddit from its crowdsourcing days:
