Michael Bastian Unveils Smartwatch That’s More Watch Than Smart

The wraps have come off the Michael Bastian watch that we wrote about a while ago — the one made in collaboration with HP — and it’s nice timepiece with not all that much tech built in.

Actually “not all that much tech” in the NB Chronowing means that Bastian kept his eye on what he was designing: a watch, not a gadget. The Wall Street Journal reports that there’s no cell connection or talking droids or touchscreen or apps or ecosystem. Although it tethers to your iOS or Android smartphone, Bastian’s watch is just a nice looking watch with an elegant display and three big buttons that scroll through menus. It’ll vibrate to tell you when a notification comes. The battery charge will last a week.

Two versions will go on sale next week at Gilt.com, the Journal said: a $649 limited edition with sapphire glass and an alligator strap, and a more restrained $349 model for plebes.
