Pokémon GO Plus Wristband Went Fast

July 12, 2016 By Pugi Kohl

screenshot_2-768You’d have to be living in a fallout shelter not to have heard of Pokémon GO, Nintendo’s augmented reality game, over the last few days. But lost in all the hype is Pokémon GO Plus — the Poké Ball-shaped device that vibrates and flashes to alert the wearer to any Pokémon in the immediate vicinity. Press a button, and the Pokémon is yours.

Pokémon GO Plus sells for $34.99 and was supposed to ship at the end of July. It sold out on preorders and is no longer available unless you want to find one on eBay, where folks are scalping the device for more than $200. (When we checked, there was one seller asking for more than $400.)

Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, told Wareable:

We want players to not just look at their phones or Pokémon Go Plus, but also focus on their surroundings in the real world.

We’re assuming that there are a lot more Pokémon GO accessories on the way. There are already almost as many GO players as the population of the Twitterverse, and it’s only just started to roll out globally. So patience. folks—unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars for something that retails for less than $50.
