Watch Sales Are Great, Apple Says, Without Showing Proof

February 2, 2017 By Dan Rosenbaum

apple-watch-selling-pointsApple reported record sales and earnings earlier this week, having sold 78 million iPhones in the last quarter alone and saying it has something like a quarter trillion d0llars in the bank. The company bragged that the Apple watch set unit and revenue records over the holiday season — but continued to be shy about just what those records might be.

Apple reports watch sales in its “other” category, which includes products like Apple TV and Beats headphones. That category accounted for $4 billion in sales (which is a lot of headphones),  down from $4.35 billion year-over-year.

Execs told the Financial Times — a well-armored pay site so we’re not linking to it — that it’s Apple TV sales that dropped, which may be true. But Apple’s not breaking down those numbers in any more detail. So if you believe Apple, its watch business is totally awesome — but how awesome is going to have to stay the subject of speculation.
