Android Wear Updates Allows Interactive Faces, Native Translate Support

August 20, 2015 By Dan Rosenbaum

BITSTechcrunch points out an update to Android Wear that lets programmers build interactive watch faces — faces that respond to taps or touches. That capability will allow designers to create much more complex (and possibly useful) complications.

Google also announced today Android Wear support for Google Translate, even if Translate isn’t installed on your phone. Speak into the watch, flick your wrist, and the translation will appear on the watch. And it works both ways, so you can speak, show the translation, and the other person can answer in their native language, which will be translated back to English on the watch. Very, very cool and useful — if, that is, it’s accurate. Otherwise, very, very mean.

Updates will roll out “in the coming weeks,” Google said.
