Samsung Ships New SoC for Wearables

October 18, 2016 By Dan Rosenbaum

samsungWe do love us a good component story here ate Wearable Tech Insider, and this one almost got past us. Samsung is now shipping mass production of its Exynos 7 Dual 7270 application processor, a 14nm device designed for wearables.

Before you fall asleep, understand that the 7270 is 10mm square and includes a 1GHz dual-core CPU; LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and FM radios; and processing power for a 960×540 display, 5MP still camera and 720p video at 30fps. The 14nm technology, the company says, allows significant power savings. The LTE radio allows connection to cellular data networks; an e-SIM would allow authentication and payment.

A development kit that includes an NFC chip and various sensors is available. We wouldn’t expect any products based on this until sometime deep into 2017.
